13th and 16th Street Light Rail Station Connectivity Improvements

In June of 2004, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments Board approved $1.6 Million in Community Design Grant Funds to construct critical safety and accessibility improvements to the 13th Street and 16th Street light rail station areas.

The 16th Street station serves as the main transfer station for the region and will improve pedestrian access, lighting and signage. This will help connect the station with high-density employment centers and new mixed-use housing projects planned within the R Street Corridor and the Fremont Park Area. Similarly, the 13th Street Station will serve the additional new mixed-use redevelopment area further west along the R Street Corridor.

The light rail stations improvement project will include at least two public workshops or open houses to obtain feedback regarding the design of the improvements.

Project Updates:

August 2007 - On July 30, 2007 the project team held a public open house to discuss a preliminary list of improvments and their possible designs. Regional Transit's consultant, Callander Assocaites, presented the improvements in a PowerPoint presentation which is available in the materials section below. After the presentation members of the public in attendence were asked to provide there feedback regarding the chose list of improvements. The feedback forms that were completed and collected and the results are also available below.

The project team will take the comments and results of the feedback forms to complete a list of improvements. Afterwards, Callander Associates will begin to fully design the improvements for the stations. Notification of final improvements and designs will be sent via a newsletter to the all the participants of the two public meetings. The final materials will also be available on R Street website.
