13th and 16th Street Light Rail Station Connectivity Improvements

In June of 2004, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments Board approved $1.6 Million in Community Design Grant Funds to construct critical safety and accessibility improvements to the 13th Street and 16th Street light rail station areas.

The 16th Street station serves as the main transfer station for the region and will improve pedestrian access, lighting and signage. This will help connect the station with high-density employment centers and new mixed-use housing projects planned within the R Street Corridor and the Fremont Park Area. Similarly, the 13th Street Station will serve the additional new mixed-use redevelopment area further west along the R Street Corridor.

The light rail stations improvement project will include at least two public workshops or open houses to obtain feedback regarding the design of the improvements.

Project Updates:

RT and the City of Sacramento are currently preparing to bid the construction of the planned improvement to the Light Rail Stations.  The project construction is anticipated to be spread out for a number of months.  Completion of the improvements is expected to be completed by June of 2009.
