On Monday, July 30th, Regional Transit (RT) and the Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA) will
host a community open house to discuss the proposed improvements to the 13th and 16th Light Rail
Stations. The meeting is a follow-up to the public workshop held in April when participants were asked to
prioritize improvements to the stations within a set construction budget. Based on the comments from the
April workshop, the project staff has developed a list of proposed improvements and preliminary designs.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 PM and be held at the Regional Transit Administrative Office at the Corner
of 29th and O Streets.
The meeting will be the public’s chance to comment on the proposed list of improvements and the design
before the project moves to the final design phase. The project consultant, Callander Associates, will
present the improvements during a presentation beginning at 6:00 PM followed by a question and answer
session. Hope to see you there!
Earlier this summer Fin’s Market & Grill and Daphne’s Greek
Café’ opened their doors as the newest additions to the R Street
Corridor. Fin’s, located at the corner of 19th and S, is a
restaurant and fish market that boasts one the regions best and
largest assortments of fish. The fish is flown in daily to ensure
the freshest selection as possible. The R Street location is the
chain’s fourth restaurant with three other locations in Fair Oaks
and Roseville.
If fish isn’t your thing, then try some Greek cuisine across 19th
Street at Daphne’s Greek Café. Located at the northwest corner
of 19th and S Streets in the R Street Market, Daphne’s offers
casual and simple Greek dishes at reasonable prices. Founded
in 1991 and Daphne’s currently has over 70 restaurants
throughout Arizona, California, and Colorado.
Both eateries add to the growing variety of restaurants located in
and around the R Street Corridor. Additional retail will be
coming to each of the buildings that Fin’s and Daphne’s occupy.
We will keep you updated on any new neighbors.
Have you
been near the corner of 17th and S Street lately? Take
a look and notice the change taking place. Four
buildings previously on the corner were demolished
earlier this month to make way for a future
condominium project. Eventually the entire half block
on the north side of S Street between 17th and 18th will
be torn down to make way for a seven to eight story
mixed use residential building. Even though plans for
the project have not been completed, demolition at this
time was necessary to help remove toxics from the site.
The developer for the proposed project plans to submit
an application to the City sometime within the next year.
Stay tuned.
