After four years of development and over a year of public input, the R Street Special Planning District (SPD) Amendments is moving forward for adoption by City Council. In the past two months City Staff has presented the amendments to the Design Review Committee, Preservation Committee, and Planning Commission for comment and approval to forward the amendments to City Council.
Most of the amendments proposed at the first community meeting in November of 2006 remain the same. The significant change to the original proposed R Street SPD amendments addresses height within the R Street Corridor. A number of allowed building heights in residential zones were changed to protect tree canopies along Q and S Streets. The proposed height regulations were also changed to help preserve and protect historic districts and properties. R Street Heights within the Capitol Area portion of the corridor were not changed and will allow building heights up to 90 feet.
Currently the R Street SPD Amendments are scheduled for the City Council’s Law and Legislation committee on November 6, 2007. The City Council will be asked to adopt the amendments at public meeting scheduled for December 11, 2007.
If you would like more information about the amendments please contact Jason Hone (916-808-8013) at the City of Sacramento.
