The City of Sacramento Development Services Department conducted a second community meeting on Thursday, February 1, 2007 to discuss a revised amendment to the R Street Corridor Special Planning District zoning regulations. The meeting began at 6:00 PM at the new CalPERS building on R Street between 3rd and 5th Streets.
The revised amendments addressed many of the community concerns about height raised at the first meeting in November of last year. The revised proposal maintains the current height allowances within historic residential districts (1300 and 1500 blocks) on the south side of Q Street. Other changes included a stepback requirement on Q and S Street within RMX zones from 2nd to 19th Streets. New buildings would now be required to have a stepback 25 feet from the property line at the façade’s 25 feet height line. This new stepback and height change was made to address the tree canopies and possible vertical contrasts to smaller buildings across Q and S Streets.
Proposed heights changed only slightly from the previous proposal. Heights between 8th and 10th were increased to 75 feet.
The previous proposed amendments can be viewed at www.rstreet.info. Please contact Bill Crouch (916-808-8013) at the City of Sacramento if you have questions.
The Capitol Area Development Authority has chosen Implementation of the R Street Corridor as the topic for its annual Board workshop on Friday, March 2, 2007. CADA is required by the 2002 State Legislation to develop and approve a plan for the development and redevelopment of the R Street Project Area. CADA would like to invite all R Street stakeholders to the workshop to discuss the draft implementation strategies and listen to the communities ideas about future development of the corridor.
The Board workshop will take place at the Empire Events Center, 1417 R Street and will begin at 10:00 AM and adjourn at 2:00 PM. Please notify CADA (Sheli Varshawsky 322-2114) if you plan to attend. The City of Sacramento has chosen a date to reveal initial designs for the first phase of R Street Streetscape improvements between 10th and 13th Streets. The meeting will take place at 5:30 PM on February 28, 2007 at the William Land Elementary School, located at 2120 12th Street. This initial project will reconstruct the R Street right-of-way (ROW) from 10th to 13th Streets. In December and January, the City’s design consultant, Mark Thomas Company, interviewed individual stakeholders to obtain input on the initial designs. The February 28th meeting is the chance for other R Street stakeholders to review the designs and make comments before the final design is completed for the project. The final design and environmental review of the project will not be completed until later in 2007. For any questions regarding the project and the meeting, please contact Zuhair Amawi, City ofSacramento’s Department of Transportation, by email (zamawi@cityofsacramento.org) or by phone (808-7620).Regional Transit has selected a design consultant for the 13th and 16th Street Light Rail Station Area improvements. Callander Associates, landscape architecture firm from Rancho Cordova, will lead the design effort for the station improvements. Now that RT has chosen a consultant, public meetings regarding the final scope and designs for the project will likely take place at the end of March or beginning of April. Construction is scheduled to begin in early spring 2008. We shall keep you posted on the exact dates of the project workshops.
