13th and 16th Street Light Rail Station Improvements
Regional Transit (RT) is finishing work to acquiring easements for improvements to the 16th Street Station. Designs for the station improvements are about 50% complete. The final design work will be done by the end of April. You can expect to see construction work begin by December of this year. For more information visit the Regional Transit website at www.sacrt.com or www.rstreet.info.

The City is also working on improvements to the areas around the transit stations. A number of sidewalks will be reconstructed to create safe and more accessible walkways for pedestrians. The final list of City improvements will be available in March.

R Street Phase II Streetscape Improvements (Market Plaza 16th to 18th)
The City has begun the design process for the streetscape on R Street between 16th and 18th Streets. The project, known as the Market Plaza, is the second implementation phase of the CADA R Street Urban Design Plan and Guidelines. The Urban Design Plan envisioned this portion of R Street to be pedestrian focused with wider sidewalk areas and limited parking to create opportunities to utilize the street right-of-way as community open space. Design work will be carried out by a consultant team that the City will choose by the end of March. Opportunities for the community to provide input will most likely take place in May or June.

R Street Zoning Amendments approved in December
On December 18, 2007, the Sacramento City Council approved a number of amendments to the R Street Corridor Special Planning District (SPD) or zoning code. The amendments were created to help address development standards that were outdated and contributing to the challenging development conditions within the R Street Corridor. CADA R Street Area Implementation Plan
On Friday, January 25, 2008, CADA adopted an Implementation Plan for their area within R Street Corridor between 9th and 19th Streets. The plan describes the strategies and programs that CADA will pursue with tax increment and other public funds to develop and redevelop the CADA portion of the R Street Corridor. Additionally, the Implementation Plan identifies the strategies and programs CADA will utilize to achieve the affordable housing mandates of the R Street Area enabling legislation.

In addition to the Implementation Plan, related environmental documents were certified and adopted by the CADA Board of Directors. If you would like to read the Implementation Plan, visit the R Street Website at www.rstreet.info or if you have questions you can contact Todd Leon at 916-323-1272 or tleon@cadanet.org.

City to buy property for Urban Park
The City is in the process of acquiring property for a new urban park/plaza at the southwest corner of 19th and Q Streets. The roughly half acre property is designated as a park site in the R Street Corridor Master Plan. Design plans and construction funding have not been identified so it may take a number of years to remediate toxics and build a park.

Two new eating and entertainment businesses also opened up on the R Street Corridor in the past few months.

Tuli Bistro.

The restaurant is small but intimate with twenty seats inside the restaurant’s main dining area and twenty more seats in a covered and heated outdoor patio. The open kitchen design in the restaurant’s interior allows most of the diners to witness the busy happenings of the kitchen as you literally watch your food cooked in front of you. In the future Tuli will offer catering and on Sunday’s cooking classes. If you would like more information about Tuli visit their website at www.tulibistro.com

Whiskey Wild Saloon
The other addition to the R Street Corridor is the Whiskey Wild Saloon located at 1910 Q Street . Whiskey Wild is a country style entertainment bar/restaurant concept that will feature bar staff that will sing and dance during select songs. The idea is to operate the business as a low key bar and grill by day and transition to a more entertainment bar and nightclub in the late evening. The menu boasts traditional pub type fair such as burgers, tacos, and hot sandwiches. If you venture to Whiskey Wild make sure you read the rules on the wall, which are entertaining themselves.
