The first
phase of R Street Streetscape Improvements continues to make
progress toward construction. The City of Sacramento recently
completed an important environmental phase of the project. The
State Historic Preservation Office and CalTrans finished its
environmental review of the preliminary design and concurred
with the findings of the project team. This milestone will allow
the project to move towards final environmental clearance, which
is scheduled for fall 2008.
Funding - More
great news for the Phase I Improvements surrounds the construction
funding for the project. The City of Sacramento and Capitol
Area Development Authority (CADA) submitted a proposal to the
Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Community Design
Grant Program to fund the $4.6 Million needed to complete the
three-block project. On March 21st the SACOG Board approved
the entire funding amount that was requested. This funding will
allow all three blocks to be constructed at once. With funding
in place and the environmental phase nearing completion, the
project team is targeting a construction start in early spring
2010.
Open House -
Councilmember Robert King Fong and City of Sacramento R Street
